Happy spring time! It’s mid-March; spring is making itself known and so should we. Having spent the last two months slowly growing underneath the soil, the time has come to expand above ground and be seen! In lockstep with nature, I am being called to the light.
This beckoning, siren song has many forms. For me, it can feel like a vibrating, urgent energy at the center of my chest. When this sensation arrives, I am filled with uncertainty. Where did it come from? What does it mean? The path to discovery is shrouded, and to see the path more clearly, I have to let the light in. Daring to be seen can feel quite intimidating. Once visible, you’re vulnerable. But why is that so dangerous? When thinking about this visibility, the focus is so regularly placed on the opinions of the outside world—other people. But what about me? Can being seen just be about me? Is that what these sensations are all about? Instead of interpreting them as anxiety and tumbling down a path of self-doubt, comparison, and insecurity, what if these sensations are an energetic push for expression—an internal request to be curious? What if these ambiguous feelings are a desire to claim oneself in the face of fear and uncertainty?
Standing in the light is about watching myself be brave and expressive. It’s about watching myself be vulnerable; teaching me that the certainty I’m searching for lies within. The certainty that no matter the outcome, I’ll expand. Nature needs no permission to expand, to share, or to express its power. It just does. Plants reach for the sun knowing that more light means more growth, and more growth means more life! Let’s follow nature’s lead this month and lean towards the light. Be brave, you’re meant for it.
7 songs that turn me towards the sun:
1. Free: Florence and The Machine
This song makes me feel all of the things. I feel fully on display every time I listen, as these lyrics describe my internal world with an accuracy that cracked me open the first time I heard it. Once all of my contents were done spilling out, I felt, you guessed it, FREE! The vocal and melody choices will put you in a new state of being, one where energy must be expressed. My preferred method of expression: DANCE!!
